They are gorgeous in real life...so dainty, sparkly and creative. Of course...what would one expect from my Diva artist friends! I have hung the banners on the front entryway banister for all my guests to see and for me to see each time I pass by...I love them! It will take 8 months for it to return back home. for this piece...i used a brass colored pendant disk, drilled holes in it along the bottom and also in the middle to attach a locket that opens and closes with a magnet. I left the inside blank so someone can punk it up. on the lid of the locket, I added the top of a nail brad and tiny watch gears, and crystal lacquer inside a silver filagree charm. I also added a round clock face and silver wing. I am calling my piece the "winged disc of time"Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-63729916120317545062010-01-07T21:37:00.004-05:002010-01-07T21:44:56.759-05:00Winter has arrived!!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq3HiVDi1BQXJLGqmEJv6372k2KelctNuQAkmk_gYoC2XmDlqKbvMyDzKeRPZl8uuMlEsc4njbpdSDgyLYIN14kYpmisfH7VfAZNVCvM19P-Yr7_DCEtXzqfyMQyTPOrXfuiMt/s200/winter+banners+001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424194439694134850" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYsjW5UMaE2bMZv9HZGwnGBLzxTIGKzeOn79Ln7wfA9VJPiwHRjq2EmVN8_H9Hy3nhgtHa3D0pn0tqCAMc80gfac-Kzf9Hnm2w3Wqu4yGJ67SEK5geaVAyqS50YzL1HTS1N6QW/s200/winter+banners+007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5424193093877002498" />

Winter has arrived in Dayton, Ohio....it is cold and we have had lots of snow today....so....I decided to work on a swap I signed up for on the Diva list.
The winter wonderland swap....make 20 5 x 7 banners in white with a hint of blue were the instructions. We each were to gather a variety of items, fabrics, metals, paper...etc...and bundle them together and then hang them outside until April 15th and allow Mother Nature to "alter" them in the snow, rain, wind etc. We are to post photos every now and then and when the project is done...we are to make an art piece using items from the bundle. Living at a condo community, I have to be careful of where and what I hang as there are " nosey police" who would love to report us for breaking the rules...LOL...so I hung mine on a recently cut evergreen tree...in the back....you can see it from the front porch but if anyone asks...i will do my best to ignore them or get them interested....if that is a possibility....

I gathered lace, fabric, paper, sheet music, pages from a phone book, silk flowers, an old metal spoon, metal wire, mesh, bells, a piece of canvas with water color sprays, a bottle cap, some pieces of copper, string and an inked tag....most of the items on on the outside of the bundle in hopes they will rust and change or fade.Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-54986841496209277272010-01-03T20:29:00.002-05:002010-01-03T20:45:03.743-05:00Happy New YearTis 2010 a, new decade arrives
I hope your year is happy, healthy and full of art supplies.

seriously....2009 was a challenge to many of us....
Dallas has been without a job all year...but not due to not trying...the guy sends out resumes everyday and applies for anything in or near his field. He has had tons of interviews....but....let's face it...being 65 isn't helping his prospective employers feel easy about hiring an old fart. Or they tell him he is over qualified...shoot he doesn't care...he just wants a job.

Last week he got a verbal offer...and they called back saying they will send the written offer once the govt....gives the approval....so hopefully this week....!!!
they told him his starting date is January 19th...so keep body parts crossed if possible.

I have been very busy with the COPP program...not sure when we will graduate...still waiting for some in our class to catch up....sheeesh. But am spending a lot of extra time at the police department each week...either for training or working a shift with a senior COPP. I also got to help with the Resolution run ...a 5 k....New year's eve. We were the lead car....stayed warm...hehehehe...there were 962 participants. ...not bad for 13 degrees.

I also worked two shifts at the theater as parking lot security....boring but decent pay for what we do. I just heard that I may be made an offer for 3 nights a week..come February. cool! I also worked the day after Thanksgiving and the day after Christmas at Aeropastale....(DD is an assistant manager there and they can hire family for those two days to help out with the madness) And it was hard work....my hat goes off for those who work retail for a regular job...the lines were out the store both days...I got to work prep which was take off the sensors, offer gift cards, and fold and bag the items after the cashier does their thing. I liked that job a lot better than putting stock on the floor....does anyone really know how many different kinds of cami's and hoodies are available? Way too many different kinds and they are all over the store and for different prices....not easy to figure out and I was worried I would put the wrong one on the wrong table or hanger...LOL

And I took the census test a few weeks ago and will be working that come April....I did it before when I lived in CA and it is a short term job but kinda fun meeting most of the people.

anyway....it has been a while since i posted and thought I should try to do better this new year.Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-29533928570912414452009-10-13T19:11:00.002-05:002009-10-13T19:20:19.170-05:00Happy Halloween<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikKk4J3CKS1DNY3zCPoHaFk-KzMhSyn4qGtB-uMUVntFY2UNNDFNeniBMib9LQ0hk3hXl5Xqzv7Rp5zJHLBqKADWIx1q89pho926L3Z8UXiaVjljwJ3sSOWB1G6-70GRDTJYX2/s200/Halloween+Banner+009.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392243819671403154" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 196px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEighAz6SXoXYGQfs_PacG9a1_nLHCFlrH0XfS_KDYeJqSpNwxO5fO4fLYVcEuL9mWjdppUTWXGsajHQ62iECQYGlldtFljZynNcw2-YoyXA-hI51kQF04v4S92nZDRv-rJ4crYJ/s200/Halloween+Banner+002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392243812828734306" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 167px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiO6H_c_XnLU0SA8_U9TCrbgNKHsuwXp93KVURq13AX_1kY2YaJ6JUWUJWBcmwE7MIdXupZeb8N_XXpUk9SQIy8PW8I2HSpXXYQqD8dqRwzo0X-ly_zEZU_roAyXdZQvfQrVp6w/s200/Halloween+Banner+005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392243798382110226" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 104px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxu6WFoADuyKlDqMvc7ivIR2mDYgjk9GLEWXCr2t7zGQMM93hnGKSQUybg8CrvW-LOX9z5rr7p_dEa1R5YMxOBoD6w1OqWT-s6UOw7VXeA4fkp4zxpP6uwj3K6XKDDq02FHpnz/s200/Halloween+Banner+011.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5392243786557324258" />
I participated in an on-line swap of banners to spell out the word Halloween. This fair takes place every labor day weekend and is a two day event of strict ..re enactment of the late 1700's and how life was like in the area ...settlers vs. local Indians, merchants, food, militia etc. The participants must follow a strict code...no modern items allowed even down to their eye glasses and words. We go up and down the various tent lined avenues....dodging horses and oxen carts and the resulting (plops)...and watch magic acts, sword swallowers, musicial presentations, and working craftsmen from lace makers to blacksmiths to basket weavers,soap makers, milners, furniture makers, and even the doctor. All the participants do a great job staying in character and it is fun to tour and observe. It was very crowded today...due to the weather....normally at this time of year it rains and is in the 40's.... we watched the battle, and jumped when the cannons were fired and watched the various militia men march about. I bought some pot metal buttons that were cast from original recast molds...some mititary and others just deocrative, and a "gill" full of white shell buttons, and a thing to hold my hair up....metal and beads...and Dallas got a horn to decorate and a wood whistle...tiny one. We had fun...but smell like campfire smoke....

now back to the 21st century....Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-44956668724877002232009-08-20T15:35:00.001-05:002009-08-20T15:36:48.465-05:00The Ties that Bind project is on TVclick on the right side to bring up the ovarian cancer site.Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-11820923217983387852009-08-17T19:06:00.001-05:002009-08-17T19:11:51.193-05:00art fair continued<img style="cursor:pointer; Only a Fairy can open the door and if one forces it open...the Fairy will leave.

At Hobby Lobby this week, they are 40% off in the unfinished wood section....so I decided to get one and painted it today. I picked up some costume jewelry and some keys, a lock and a victorian floor lamp...not bad for $14.50 total!!! I picked up a green malekite stone necklace for $1 and took it apart. Dallas stripped some electrical wire for me to the copper core...and I guess it is around 14 gage...and I made my version of the tree of life pendants using the copper and green stone....they are all different since I was not sure how to make them but experimented.
And I took a jewelry solder class last week and made myself a greenish glass/silver bracelet and also one for DD(Jenny) for her up coming birthday....hers of course is pink. And I have also made a new wreath for over the fireplace. Flowers are planted and looking pretty and we are having more sunshine than rainy days now,..so what could be better?Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-83596694157710783342009-06-11T11:17:00.004-05:002009-06-11T11:24:35.681-05:00Ties That Bind Raffle tickets are now availablethis is such a wonderful cause to help fight ovarian cancer. Have you heard of letterboxing?
they are darn near the same thing except with geocaching you use a GPS to find the spot or close to it.
So the newbies that we are....I downloaded about 8 possible sites to try to find....noting that I chose mostly level 1's and 2's on the terrain and difficulty scale. Well, the first one we got to the area but could not find the cach...same with the second one....OK, perhaps we need a level 0 difficulty....sheesh....then we found the 3rd, 4th ones....yippie....opened up the micro box and signed the logs....and then rehid in the same location for the next seeker. then we headed out for the 5th one....hmmm....would have to walk into someone's yard to find it....and I won't do that and being unfamilar with the neighborhood, we didn't know how to get to the woods behind the houses that were along a fence line...so headed out to the 6th, 7th and 8th....found them...some were tiny nano boxes...and one was a sandwich sized tupperware like container...it actually had treasures to trade but since we didn't bring anything to trade...we just signed the log and rehid...but I now want to make "signature" treasures...that people will want to collect...got to come up with something not too large but coveted and unique just the same...I may paint wooden nickles and leave those...but then maybe not...LOL...
anyway...the weather was nice and we had fun walking a bit in the woods and parks to locate the caches...and trying not to be noticed by anyone.
If you have a GPS and are looking for something fun to do -outdoors -with the family...go to geocaching.com and read a bit and download some hidden caches in your area to go hunt.Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-23329487357713941492009-04-17T20:00:00.003-05:002009-04-17T20:04:28.866-05:00beach in a bowl<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 194px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb_ccdU2GIYquF8iUrw3d8N5Isiq35IbB7Q36cY5DjiWqx10rb8iiTwokTR9_YqsPqDiUJEZX18Bx3UbnhDfldR-rWNcmFGP5buD5JqVj_FfJ-59PoZLbTX5upJRf2qrzmGK6w/s200/09+038.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325830137782907746" />

OK, so I bought some of these shells since Myrtle Beach has bone crusher waves and breaks most shells. One can get them on some of the smaller beaches that have sand bars...but....needless to say...I picked up broken shells for their color and bought some fancy ones.... but...the sand is pure authentic. I had the bowl and added the fish net a attached some shells to the outside...My little beach at home....all that is missing is the sound of the ocean and the breeze and the cold water....hmmm...wonder if Dallas would mind if I hooked up the hose and turned on the fan....? On week 14 every year or there abouts, we either head to Myrtle or exchange it for another destination...but mostly Myrtle. This year we wanted to see some things we had not discovered in the past or for a while. We toured one of Myrtle Beach's wineries and took a day trip to Charleston and Georgetown. We also visited Brookgreen Gardens and walked the beach...a lot. I picked up various shells, and sand and was looking for some jelly fish...(we always see dead jelly fish washed up after the storms) but not this year...instead...we saw this large pile of sponge...I thought it unique that it was in a heart shape, and we saw dolphins and people....LOTS of people when in past years there would be about 50 on the beach on a given day. We had fairly decent weather...a bit chilly at times...but no snow and we took our time and relaxed...no set schedule...nor rushing around...no expensive shows...just a nice week on the beach to blow away the winter duldrumsJean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-33381586263136398062009-03-23T12:51:00.002-05:002009-03-23T13:02:43.251-05:00Rescue<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 152px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKybseP_tNFPAOpCehiyrZeI_SVaxi-polGYiRXSPhcCoI3mmWVmmo9fl4PeqcBAZyFLovpcd743kOtNWT4kuMWDPi0s9HFZR4AqRUPL9w6UMsPZ9kgisRWp5RY8Y1f_x-OvOy/s200/purse+005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316442980560910546" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil4qZFEM2aBbRXSjJ5cv8O_GaG5ChatkM0Fm1vwutC31afex18aFR0BL2EdKsn_9QPb4Za6Cevy3ccbuS3XRrZTvI5nuwkkLozOzDS3p3GkcSj3ktGN2pt-9Lc3WYcHcbDWuTy/s200/purse+007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316442965316993186" />

Last week, one of my neighbors who is a quilter and sews everyday...was cleaning out her closet of unfinished projects and asked me to come over to see if I could use anything before she tossed it. Already in the pile to be tossed was a bag of cut out pieces to make a purse. She had cut them out but lost interest and it sat in her closet for a few years... I loved the colors...and looked at the pieces...it was hard to tell what was what but I thought I could put it all together and make a few adaptations from the left over fabric. I had to buy a zipper and take it back as once I got the pieces somewhat hooked together...the zipper I had was going to be too short...then I picked up some black bias tape to use to finish off seams as the quilted fabric would be too thick for a traditional seam. Any way...I used my Baby Smurf...(teeny tiny blue Kenmore) and it worked like a trooper even through 4-5 thickness in some areas of quilted fabric...I don't think my older more expensive machine would have gone over some of those bulges...LOL... I had to do some hand sewing...not my favorite....around the inside of the zipper to hide and finish off the seam...this would not have been so hard...except for the fact..I had no regular needles and had to use a dull round point....yes, I could have waited until today to go buy what I needed but I wanted that purse done yesterday!!!!
I love it....!!!!Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-84757933647063888862008-12-16T23:54:00.003-05:002008-12-17T00:01:36.884-05:00More Flower Pot Figures...and a nest<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXLcPERNsbom1Mba7OMfI0VxszkJJ-WzPhfg6-yjH9UkPLcgE27ukvjYD54EGDJLg0vcWpHMWpuyygJIkQ3uXR82KebSx1Gj0baE4e19UknHHnCQ1Kt7P6CeBMsmP01fpIE0X2/s200/flower+pot+figures+023.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5280618421494587762" />

the weather outside is foggy and ice is covering everything. Soooo, nothing better to do then stay inside and work on some projects...I got my chores done and rewarded myself with some art play.
I created the angel and snowman from the tiny terra cota flower pots and a small wooden ball for the heads/hat. The nest is from copper wire and some beads I had laying around. Snowman flower pots was the theme this past month. I made the first one on the left for myself and the last one on the right was made for one of the gals who got sick and could not attend...I did all the gluing and the other gals handed me stuff to attach... the little snowman is also mine...I added garland and mini lights to the picket fence posts...and the red gingham tree is made from an old rusted bed spring with bells glued to it. Anyway...this is a fun and easy project and we had a great time.....after the craft session, we enjoyed homemade soup, dessert, veggies, rolls and chips and dip... no one minded that it was 20 degrees outside...we were having fun and warm inside.Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12245999.post-35744065181215007442008-12-06T01:05:00.002-05:002008-12-06T01:09:55.599-05:00my ornament tree<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFXKQle5nT9eZR7AGsfmpV5eS0ShBYRPcIXNw9xuun7Kqz9fpGI7vdjIGwX9tb7Pr1aCzOsjhw2J_nUSEuNxZ-DnempVe7wkaNLbbkm9NjDcRHddFecA_hwNL64WQpO3NmBB7N/s200/Christmas+08+001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5276554701590021410" />

this is my art ornament tree that I leave up all year long... decorated with art from the various holidays. Each gal of a group of 12, made 12 handmade items and sent 1 out to each of the other gals. We were all assigned a day from 1-12.... Begining on Dec. 1st for day 1...we began to open each designated gift for the day. I am day #4 and above is the ornament I made from an old silver plated spoon. I used a drill press with a round cutting blade to cut off the handle, and to drill the hole into the stub. I used a belt sander to smooth the cut edges, and then I painted the scene and sealed it, added a bow and charm and told each spoon to behave and bring a smile to the recipient's face.Jean-activeimaginationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07441146554595247153noreply@blogger.com3
